This is a 40,000 volt coil. It can be used with points style ignition system, or an electronic type ignition system. This coil has a primary resistance of .6 to .8 ohms. On the side of this coil, it says "use with ballast resistor." If you have a points type ignition system, you will need to use a ballast resistor. If you have an electronic ignition system, and you need the .60 - .80 ohm primary circuit, which most do require, you would NOT use a ballast resitor. Please check your owners' manual for proper ohms rating needed for your particular application.
